Grand Canyon Inn History

A large hard working family from Canada moved to Arizona in the late 50’s to pursue the American dream. They built the first Grand Canyon Inn and restaurant in a small town between Red Lake and Grand Canyon. They also ran a service station in that area. In the late 70’s the family moved to Valle. Here they built a new hotel and restaurant. Always looking to expand, their son opened a gas station in the area as well. It was located where the Rock Shop now sits. These were the first services for tourists in Valle. In the mid 80’s their daughter and her husband opened the newest hotel, built across the highway from the original property. When it was built, the hotel had only 32 rooms. In the mid 90s the hotel expanded, adding two new wings and the swimming pool. Giving the hotel a total of 101 guest rooms, seventy three deluxe rooms and 28 economy rooms (only open in the summer months) The same couple also built the Valle Travel Stop next door to Grand Canyon Inn. It is the most complete service station in the area. Offering two gift shops and a mini mart as well as diesel and gasoline. Both businesses are now being run by their children, the third generation.
