Kokopelli's Page

The legend of Kokopelli is wonderfully rich and entertaining. He is a friend of many tribes and cultures of the Southwest. He can be found inscribed on stone and pottery from Mexico to Utah . He is always seen playing his flute and dancing. His name is most often linked to fertility and the joy of life. He has been our friend here at the Inn for over thirty years as he welcomes our guests at the front door.

In fact, the Kokopelli figure is a traditionally Native American symbol which has long been considered a symbol of abundance and fertility.

The legend of Kokopelli varies from tribe to tribe, as well as from year to year. The most accepted basis is that Kokopelli was a man who traveled widely and carried a sack on his back which contained various items according to the story being told, and he carried with him gifts from the gods. Traditionally, he is always seen playing a flute of some sort. He was believed to be gifted by the gods in his music. When he would play, the village would know that he came in peace.
